Getting to Singapore On April 13th, we flew from Frankfurt, Germany to Singapore on the A380. After a 12 hour flight, we were too tired to take the metro for an hour so instead we took a shared shuttle van to our hotel [email protected]. Berny stayed here in 2010 and was able to get us a good deal as he kept in touch with someone who worked there. My sister and her boyfriend also flew into Singapore later that same day where we reunited after not seeing each other in over a year! We will be travelling around Asia for the next several weeks with them (along with some cousins who are flying in from Miami). We spent two full days exploring Singapore. The first day we took an Uber down to Marina Bay Sands and went to the top to get a view of the city. The ticket costs about $16 per person, but we spent a couple hours up there so that we could see the city during the day, at sunset and then at night. We were still at the top when the lightshow down at Gardens by the Bay started so we watched the show from above. Then we headed down to the Gardens to explore it by night. It was so stunning seeing this man made garden built with huge metal trees. By day, it isn’t too impressive, but at night it is quite magical with everything lit up in different colors. We spent some time walking around here and then found a relatively secluded area away from the crowds where we watched the light and music show again. The second day, we went to the Botanical Gardens and back to the Marina Bay Sands area. The Botanical Gardens were beautiful, but it was quite brutal to walk around in the hot and humid weather. The most fascinating thing about the gardens are all the plants that are used in medicines to treat various ailments. After exploring the Botanical Gardens for a couple of hours, we went back to the Marina Bay Sands area to see the Merlion Lion Statue. Later that evening, we went to a Dim Sum restaurant in Little India to meet a couple of friends. One of these friends, Ctefan, was someone Berny and I had met at the Singapore Airport while waiting for the shuttle. After dinner, we went back to our hotel and enjoyed drinks on the rooftop terrace while overlooking the city. Food The food we ate in Singapore was delicious and cheap! We ate several times at a food court just around the corner from our hotel where most meals cost just $2 to $3. The Dim Sum restaurant we ate at was a local spot and we tried some interesting food. Though not as cheap as our other meals, it was a fun culinary experience.
